Introduction to
Forest Therapy,

A perspective of 45 years on this land.
Picture
Our love for the land runs so deeply that we put a conservation easement on it in 2000 to protect it in perpetuity. This was necessary since this 100 acre Nature Reserve is zoned "Industrial Extractive" and is on the eastern boundary of some of the most valuable quarry stone in this country. By protecting it and and having a satellite trail of the Bruce Trail on the land, we have ensured that future generations will be able to enjoy this magical place

Introductory Forest   Therapy  Sessions

I take you into the forest of Rural Rootz not just to "see" with your eyes, but to experience
with all five senses the magic that is  the woods. You will become friends with the smallest plants to the tallest trees and learn their life story.  If we are lucky you will meet some of the woodland creatures, and birds.  We may even meet a beaver.

This type of experience is called Forest Therapy or Shinrin-yoku.
This therapy, meaning "taking in the forest atmosphere" or "forest bathing," originated in Japan.
The Japanese government adopted this in 1982 as an preventative health initiative.

It is not just a Walk in the Woods.
It's a focused experience which involves immersing oneself in nature.
It has links to ancient Shinto and Buddhist practices.
This multi-sensory approach to nature is geared to slowing your mind and sharpening your senses.
It's not about getting exercise or acquiring botanical knowledge.
It's about experiencing the magic of the moment and being enchanted by your surroundings.

"High and Dry" refers to the southern crevice cave section of the property. Here a jumble of rocks catches your breath as they create a wonderland of crevice caves and "prehistoric outliers." Be prepared to to be amazed by the formations of the limestone and the magical things you will see in rocks that tell their own story.

" Low and Boggy" is not really low but rather lower than the southern part of the property. The focal point here is a 10 acre, spring fed beaver pond. There are two beaver lodges, one of which is on the bank
just at the Lookout spot.  If you are quiet and lucky
you may even have an opportunity to spot
one of these industrious critters.
