Spirit Catcher's Story
The haunting sound heard across a lake heralds the
arrival of spring to most Canadians. The call of the loon evokes a
primal response in our core being which longs for the return of green
after the white of winter. Just to hear the cry of the loon gladdens our
heart and brings a smile to our hearts.
As a swimmer, the loon is unexcelled. It has to rely on
rhythmic breathing in order to dive. The loon is handicapped on land
where it is awkward and clumsy. In order to take off it will run across
the water to build up momentum thus giving rise to the notion that the
loon 'dances' on water. This playfulness is also reflected in its large
vocal repertoire. The call of the loon can sound like the howl of a wolf
or like a high trilling laugh.
Loons can dive deep and swim faster than any other bird.
Unlike other birds, they have solid bones. By emptying its lungs it can
sink most of its body beneath the water in case of danger. Then all that
appears is its head. Anytime loon shows up in your life it is time to
pay attention to your dreams. Perhaps these will become more vibrant or
contain messages from your spirit. The danger lies in ignoring these
signals from the realm of dreams.
The Chi
The energy to fulfill wishes and dreams comes with this
Spirit Catcher. The loon is the symbol for the re-awakening of old hopes
and dreams. Like spring bursting into being, the energy of this catcher
is very powerful. Be like the loon and dive beneath the surface of your
consciousness. Find the treasures buried there. Let those dreams see the
light of day for we are never given dreams without the means of
fulfilling them. They may not manifest in the way we imagined but like
the call of the loon in spring, attempting to fulfill these dreams will
be 'full filling' to our spirit!
